A Weibo account belonging to Xiaomi's marketing manager, Mr. Tony, included a statement that reads "Do not wait so long to see the side, right? 816 See Beijing." That was followed by another post from IHS Technology Director Wang Yang. Referring to the previous comment, Yang wrote, "Qiazhiyisuan, debut of the Redmi Note 2.″ While this is not quite as official as a statement from Xiaomi itself, it certainly sounds like the fifth largest smartphone manufacturer on the planet (based on Strategy Analytics' Q2 numbers) will be holding an event in Beijing on the 16th of this month. August 16th is traditionally a day when Xiaomi meets the press and offers special deals on its phones and accessories. Besides the introduction of the Redmi Note 2, we expect the company to unveil its latest Android UI, MIUI 7.
Last month (which is now July), the Redmi Note 2 was certified by China's TENAA agency and the specs of the device were revealed. The unit will feature a 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920 resolution (FHD) screen. That works out to a 401ppi pixel density. An octa-core 2GHz CPU will be driving the phone, and while the actual chipset is unknown, we could see two versions of the Redmi Note 2. One would be equipped with the Snapdragon 615 SoC, and the other would use the MediaTek MT6795 SoC to power the model. 2GB of RAM is inside, along with 16GB of expandable storage. The camera package from back to front weighs in at 13MP/5MP, and the lights are kept on thanks to the 3020mAh battery employed by the handset. Android 5.0 is pre-installed with Xiaomi's own MIUI skin running on top.
Keep checking in for the latest news and rumors related to new product announcements. It might be the dog days of summer, but we are working our fingers to the bone to bring you all of these announcements.
